So I am missing my normal studio/office space due to water damage which means that not only am I missing every guitar except one, I am also missing my microphone, amp, pedals, vinyl recorder, and my speakers. So all I have to make music is a pair of headphones and my very very very tiny, and very cramped bedroom.
So its just like the old days. To top it off, the quarantine started here (Washington) meaning that I have to stay inside (so nothing really has changed now that I think of it).
Anyways, I started this song a few days before self-isolation started and decided to embrace my new limitations and to make something upbeat and fun for a change.
I used a lot of Kontakt and Serum.
Minimal samples were used which was a fun challenge:
David Bowie - Five Years:
(I took the drums, sped them up crazy fast and really messed with them to create a fast punchy sound that almost acts as a texture.)
The Turtles - I'm Chief Kamanawanalea:
This was a bit more straight forward. I took the drums, changed the speed and pitch, duplicated the drums and then pitch those lower to make a nice layered drum pattern that I then sliced occasionally. I then made my own drums and layered them on top of the samples to create a 4 on the floor dancing feel and to add more punch the the track.
Fun Fact: This song was originally named Smooth Smother.
